A new Smart Energy Home offering is introduced to residential customers in Hawaii by SolarCity. This new offering includes advanced technology wherein solar photovoltaic (PV), smart electric water heaters, battery storage, and the Nest Learning Thermostat are all coordinated by a home gateway that manages the water heater, battery, thermostat, and inverter to improve solar PV generation and self-consumption.

The smart energy home system of SolarCity incorporates solar with batteries to stock excess electricity generated from the solar power system during the daytime, then deliver it to the home at night. The dynamically-controlled smart electric water heater makes use of solar PV to heat water during daytime and stock it for later use in the home. As a whole, the smart Energy Home uses the smart electric water heater, battery, and Nest Learning Thermostat to automatically customize or change the energy usage depending on how much solar power is available to keep energy from being exported back to the grid.

The system size and the combination of technology and number of batteries will differ depending on the clients’ individual energy usage.

As written on its website, SolarCity was founded in 2006 and currently has tens of thousands of customers in California, Arizona, Connecticut, Colorado, Hawaii, Delaware, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, New York, Washington, Washington D.C., and Oregon. The company aims to transform the way Americans use energy and presently provides one out of every four new solar electricity systems across the country.

SolarCity is the largest solar power provider in the United States. The company makes clean energy available to homeowners, schools, businesses, non-profits and government organizations at a lower cost than they pay for energy generated by burning fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas.

One of the company’s main focus is to install systems to the highest engineering standards while making the switch simple for its clients. It boasts that it revolutionized the way energy os delivered by providing its customers more affordable options to their monthly utility bill.
